SCAN CONVERTER TUBES

From top to bottom : TMA403, TMA416A, CK1383, T-7910, 1855

THOMSON-CSF TMA403

This French storage tube was used in Air Traffic Control (both civil and military) to convert the faint radar pictures into bright television pictures, while allowing the operators to keep the aircraft tracks during several minutes.
Both guns use electrostatic focus. The writing gun uses magnetic deflection, the reading gun uses electrostatic deflection.
Total length : 67 cm (26.38 in)

THOMSON-CSF TMA416A

This French tube was used in radars to produce bright displays where Air Traffic Control operators need to be able to see outside too. It was then more suitable to use a television display of the radar information picture as seen on a PPI (Plan Position Indicator). The PPI style picture is drawn on one side of the central screen and read off the other side by a TV raster scan.
Total length : 60 cm (23.60 in)

RAYTHEON CK1383

The major application of the CK1383 is scan conversion such as radar PPI to television presentation. This type of system yields a bright video display, with high resolution and adjustable automatic priming or erasing, which may be used to generate target trails indicating elapsed time position. Stored signals can be held for a long period, read several thousand times, or erased in a fraction of second if desired.
Both the writing and reading guns use magnetic deflection and magnetic focus.
Resolution : TV lines per diameter : 1200 lines minimum.
Total length : 62 cm (24.40 in)

TEKTRONIX T-7910

This tube is very similar to the Tektronix T-7912 scan converter CRT, which was capable of recording 2.5 gigahertz signals. A 'write' electron gun with traveling wave deflection system deposits charge patterns on a thin silicon wafer. These patterns are read by a low velocity 'read' electron beam from a gun mounted in the opposite end of the tube, scanning the back surface of the silicon wafer.

Total length : 57.5 cm (22.64 in)

RCA 1855

The GRAPHECHON is a charge storage tube intended for data-processing applications where signal information must be transformed continuously from one time base to another. Both guns have electrostatic focus and utilize magnetic deflection.
Total length : 47.8 cm (18.80 in)
